What are the Different Types of Foam?

To ensure customers are provided with the right foam and foam product for each individual application, foam products from Polyformes Ltd., are manufactured using a wide variety of foam materials with varying properties such as Azote foams.

Different types of foam materials include:

Plastazote

This type of polyethylene based foam, is one of the most commonly used foam materials, due to a range of properties, such as:

  • Flexibility and durability – Because of Plastazote’s nitrogen-filled, closed cell construction, this foam material offers supreme durability and flexibility under normal and extreme conditions.
  • Mouldability – One of the reasons so many industries across the globe use Plastazote for all types of products, including buoyancy aids, surf boards, orthopaedic shoes, masks and hats, is down to its ability to be moulded at low temperatures, and the ease in which it can be cut and formed into intricate shapes.
  • Water resistance – Plastazote’s water resistance is a vital property for many of the industries and organisations who use Polyformes products. These industries include defence and military, marine and floatation, cosmetics and beauty, sports and leisure, aerospace and aircraft and many more.

Evazote

Evazote’s exceptional durability, flexibility and softness, is due to its cross-linked, closed-cell construction. This unique chain of repeating molecular units, give this EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) copolymer foam its outstanding resilience under constant impact, especially when used in footwear, knee pads, storage, and electromagnetic shielding.

Available in two different grades, EV and VA, and four densities (30,35,45 and 50kg/m3 ), Evazote also offers a high level of chemical resistance, meaning it resists most acids, alkalis, solvents and oils. This property makes Evazote an ideal material for use in the plumbing, electrical and gas industries.

ARPLANK

Constructed by fusing together resilient, closed-cell polyethylene beads, ARPLANK has the advantage of easily absorbing and dissipating energy, making it one of the best foams for the packaging of fragile objects. ARPLANK is also chemically inert and 100% recyclable, which helps industries achieve environmental and sustainability targets.

Ethafoam

Ethafoam is a non-cross-linked, expanded polyethylene foam, ideal for all types of packaging due to it being lightweight and extremely flexible and its ability to resist constant shocks. The benefits of Ethafoam packaging are varied, but its key benefit is that it can be reused multiple times, an advantage particularly beneficial to the shipping industry.

Stratocell

This closed-cell, polyethylene based foam is ideal for businesses or organisations looking to save money on packaging. Stratocell’s cost-effectiveness is achieved due to its ability to be reused countless times without any degradation, and its lightweight, which helps to reduce fuel costs in transportation.
